The Mughal Empire (Mogul) was founded by Babur in 1526, when he defeated Ibrahim Lodi, the last sultan of Delhi at the battle of Panipat. The term Moghul seems to have been given to the empire during the nineteenth century and is derived from Mongolian, another part of the legacy of Babur, a descendant of Genghis Khan. The dynasty is growing considerably as Akbar and Aurangzeb. At the latter's death in 1707, the empire began a slow decline, while retaining some power for another 150 years. In 1739, it was defeated by an army from Persia led by Nâdir Shah. In 1756, an army led by Ahmed Shah Abdali again plunders Delhi. The British Empire leads its ultimate disappearance in 1857.
